Here’s a song from two Nigerians in the diaspora, Rotimi and Wale. In My Bed is the first record off Rotimi’s EP, The Beauty Of Becoming (TBOB). The record was produced by Harmoney Samuels.
What happens when a classic RnB sample meets an Afro rhythm? Magic happens! The song started with a sample of Mario Winans's 'I Don't Wanna Know,' (2004) which was actually a sample of Enya's 'Boadicea' (1987). Then followed by the catchy hook that Rotimi sang in the most sensual way possible. Immediately after the hook, Wale came in with his sensual poetry lyrics with that 'Diced Pineapple' but with the rhythm of an African rapper.
Rotimi definitely knows how to blend African rhythm with the western sound while using an African accent. This unique style is working for him.
