Simisola, Bolatito, Adeola, Opeyemi, Oreoluwa, Ogunleye (Simi) was born April 19, 1988. She is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She was born in Ojuelegba, a suburb of Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria, and also raised by a single mum, her parents were seperated  when she was 9 years old. The Ondo State indigene is the last four children and the only consequently, she was a tomboy while growing up. She penned her first song when she was 10 years old & began singing at the age of 16 years.

She attended Stars International College, a secondary school in Ikorodu, Lagos State.  She is an alumni of Covenant University, where she studied mass communication.

Music Career

She grew up dancing and singing as a member of her local teen’s church choir. She wrote her first song at the age of 10.and began singing at the age of 16. Her musical career started in 2008 following the release of her debut studio album Ogaju, which consisted of a variety of songs such as “Iya Temi” and “Ara Ile”. The album was produced entirely by Samklef. A few years later, however, she switched over to singing secular songs and got her major breakthrough in the mainstream music industry in 2014 after the release Tiff under a record label, X3M Music which she was signed to in the same year. Th song was nominated in two categories at the Headies awards in 2015.

When she was signed into X3M Music, she has released hits including, Tiff, JAMB question, Love Don’t Care, Smile For Me and also a feature a number of hit records such as ‘Soldier’, with Falz, ‘No Forget’, with Adekunle Gold, ‘Orire’, with Legendary Beatz and the rest. In January 2014, Simi released an EP titled Restless that eventually earned her a record deal with X3M Music. The EP contains a 5-track cover of popular songs by international acts like Rihanna’s “Man Down” and Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain”. On January 9, 2014, she released two singles titled “Tiff” and “E No Go Funny”, both of them receiving massive airplay and had generally positive reviews from critics. The song was nominated for Best Alternative Song” at the 2015 edition of The Headies.


Later in 2015, Simi won the Most Promising Act to Watch category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. In an interview with Leadership newspaper, Simi said she is working on her second album scheduled to be released in 2016. Upon the release of “Jamb Question”, Simi was listed as one of the artistes to watch out for in 2016 by NotJustOk. The remix of “Jamb Question” features Nigerian rapper Falz. On February 14, 2016, Simi released the Oscar Heman Ackah-produced love ballad “Love Don’t Care”. It received frequent radio airplay and was met with positive reviews.  “Love Don’t Care” effectively addresses tribalism and discrimination in Nigeria.

In October 2016, she was nominated in the Best Breakthrough Act category at the 2016 edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards. On October 27, she collaborated with Falz to release Chemistry, a project Oghene Michael of 360Nobs described as an “experiment of the word art”.  In December 2016, Simi was nominated in three categories at The Headies 2016, winning one. Simi released two singles “Smile for Me” and “Joromi” backed with music videos which were directed by Clarence Peters and Aje Films respectively. She unveiled the album’s tracklist via Instagram on September 1, 2017 before it was released on September 8 to relatively positive reviews and went on to debut at number five on the Billboard World Albums chart.

Personal Life

She got married to singer Adekunle Gold in a private wedding ceremony on January 9, 2019.  It was revealed that they had been dating for five years.
